Los árboles de Antonio Quintana

"...La presente exposición buscar dar cuenta de las distintas series representativas que componen la fotografía y poética sobre los árboles en la obra de Antonio Quintana Contreras (1904-1972). Aquí́ se explora una sección de obra inédita del fotógrafo/artista/activista chileno a partir del material recuperado de una de sus principales fuentes de imágenes y documentos, las que resguarda el Archivo Patrimonial de la Universidad de Santiago. Esto consiste en los fragmentos sobrevivientes de su obra particular donada por su viuda Enriqueta Silva a la Universidad Técnica del Estado (UTE) en el año 1972. Entre ellos están estás imágenes, copias, contactos, un álbum que dan cuenta de la atención con que Quintana registró y documentó los fenómenos de la naturaleza y en particular la belleza de los árboles..."

"...This exhibition seeks to account for the different representative series that make up the photography and poetics about trees in the work of Antonio Quintana Contreras (1904-1972). Here, a section of unpublished work by the photographer/artist/ Chilean activist based on the material recovered from one of his main sources of images and documents, those kept by the Patrimonial Archive of the University of Santiago. This consists of the surviving fragments of his private work donated by his widow Enriqueta Silva to the Technical University of the State (UTE) in 1972. Among them are images, copies, contacts, an album that show the attention with which Quintana recorded and documented the phenomena of nature and in particular the beauty of trees... "

Ignacio Chávez T. (1990), investigador y docente (Instituto Arcos). Presenta estudios en filosofía (U. Chile), semiótica (U. Chile) y fotografía (Arcos). En el campo laboral se especializa en el estudio y manejo de archivos y colecciones. Publica “Exposición y emancipación de un pueblo: Apuntes de una estética-política en Antonio Quintana” en Antonio Quintana: Oficio y Arte (Editorial Usach, 2017) y recientemente edita Como una mujer, la imagen fotográfica de Rita Ferrer (Aguaderramada, 2023).
Ignacio Chávez T. (1990), researcher and teacher (Arcos Institute). He presents studies in philosophy (U. Chile), semiotics (U. Chile) and photography (Arcos). In the work field he specializes in the study and management of archives and collections. He publishes “Exhibition and emancipation of a people: Notes on an aesthetic-politics in Antonio Quintana” in Antonio Quintana: Oficio y Arte (Editorial Usach, 2017) and recently edits Como una mujer, la photographic image de Rita Ferrer (Aguaderramada, 2023 ).
